We want everyone that comes to Gateway to find a circle of real friendship. We love to celebrate on Sundays but wherever you are on your journey we encourage you to move from a row on Sunday to a circle. A group is a great place to make friends, grow in faith and connect with the life of the church.
WHAT ARE GROUPS ALL ABOUT?
We are passionate about helping people deepen their walk with God and relationships with one another.
We believe that discipleship happens most effectively in the context of community and therefore want to encourage everyone who calls Gateway Church their home to belong to a Gateway Group. These are a great place to make new friendships, to build the relationships that are essential to help each one of us to grow as a follower of Jesus, to join us in our adventure and to have fun!
We are making it as easy as we can for everyone to join a group. Simply take time to look through the groups listed in the booklet, find a group that fits you for this term, and sign up.
START BY SELECTING A GROUP
There are three different types of groups each with a different emphasis but all underpinned with Jesus’ great commission to his disciples to go and make disciples
Gateway Community Groups are the hub of community life at Gateway, they are the central point of our group structure and we want to encourage everyone to attend one of these.Community Groups will be focussed on growing together in God by studying the Bible (most groups will follow on from the Sunday preach), praying together, giving a chance to grow and use gifts, enable support, encouragement and friendship. They will run for a ten week period.
Gateway Equip Groups will also run for up to ten weeks and consist of training tracks and courses with the aim of training and equipping the church. It might be at some point that we run an Equip track that you want to attend, and so for that term we would love for you to sign up for that group either alongside or in place of a Community Group. There are many varied Equip courses and tracks we are wanting to run in the future, so watch this space!
Gateway Connect Groups are for everyone and anyone whether Gateway is your home church or not! They are groups based mainly around an activity or hobby with the purpose to create opportunity for those in Gateway to build friendships with others from across Gateway and also to build friendships with those within our wider community. By the nature of these groups they will generally not be following the termly pattern.
WHEN ARE THE GROUPS STARTING?
Community and Equip Groups will run for twelve weeks starting on the week commencing Monday 16 January 2017.
Connect Groups do not follow the termly pattern but have their own schedules.
HOW CAN I SIGN UP?
Fill out the Sign Up form in the back of this booklet and hand in at the Connect Point by Sunday 8th January 2017. You can also email your choice of group – firstname.lastname@example.org
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SIGN UP?
The group leader will contact you to confirm the details of start date, when and where the group will meet and welcome you into the group.
CAN I GO TO MORE THAN ONE GROUP?
Our desire is that those who sign up for any group make it a priority to attend. If you have the time, you are welcome to join more than one group. However, it would be much better to attend one group regularly than two groups inconsistently.
WHY DO GROUPS HAVE A BREAK AT THE END OF THE TEN WEEKS?
We have found that the ‘holiday break’ in meeting keeps us fresh as it provides a sense of rest in our diaries. Also, taking a break between terms creates space to have meals with others you have built friendship with over the ten weeks of the course!?
CAN I GO TO THE SAME GROUP EACH TERM?
Yes! As long as it is running you can continue in the same group, there is no expectation on anyone to have to change groups unless they want to.
WHY DO I HAVE TO SIGN UP EACH TERM?
The whole church engaging with signing up for groups will help those new to Gateway get connected into community life more quickly. It also helps us be aware of where people are connecting within the church.
HOW DO I JOIN A GROUP MID-TERM?
Most groups will not be open after the second week so that real friendships can develop, however there are a few groups which remain open all term so simply fill out a sign-up sheet, hand it in at the Connection Point and we will be in touch.
