Our History
Gateway Church Swindon, originally called Swindon Family Church started in Swindon in late ’92 led by Andrew Leakey. It began meeting in the Link Centre, in West Swindon. As the church grew, new venues had to be found and for a number of years we even met at the County Ground Football Stadium. Then in February 2006 we finally moved into a more permanent base that we could call our own – the Trinity Centre in Westlea, where we continue to meet today.
On Sunday 8th July 2007, God used a church member to bring a prophetic word to the whole church. She said that she felt God wanted to speak a word to the church that was related to Genesis 17:1-6.
She believed that God was doing a work with us as a church in regards to the nations. In the same way that God had spoken to Abraham about changing his name and about him being the Father of many nations, so he was saying to us that it was time to change the name of the church.
In the autumn of 2006 following a number of other significant factors, Mark felt it was right to tell the church the name that God had given him for the church. In the spring and summer of 2007 we entered the process of changing the name of the church to: Gateway Church Swindon.
Our church is part of the Newfrontiers family of churches. To find out more about Newfrontiers go to www.newfrontierstogether.org
